Unable to upgrade memory

I attempted to upgrade the memory on my Dell Inspiron 1150 laptop, but it would not work. Even with the assistance of two tech specialists, the laptop will not boot. Now I'm stuck with it, even if it's really slow. I don't suppose I can return the memory, but it was given swiftly.
