Updating Iris Graphics Drivers

I have a brand new Inspiron 7506 with Intel Iris Xe Graphics and Intel Iris Xe MAX Graphics. Experienced a problem where Adobe Photoshop (latest subscription version) always crashed with almost any common image manipulation. Fixed the crash by telling PS to not use the Xe MAX adapter but, hey, why can't a graphics intensive program use a dedicated graphics processor?

Have been trying to keep software, drivers, BIOS, etc., up to date and am getting conflicting info that pertains to the graphics. The Dell Support Assistant reports that everything is up to date and recent updates didn't have anything to do with graphics. But I downloaded the Intel Driver and Support Assistant and it reports that both graphics adapter drivers need updating. However the Intel Assistant cautions against overwriting OEM drivers since they may have been customized to the hardware.

So, can I count on the Dell SA to tell me if the graphics drivers need work? Can I count on Dell to keep up with this issue or should I be trusting Intel who built the stuff in the first place? I suspect that Intel is just noticing a mismatch in driver specs even if the OEM drivers are fully up to speed.

Finally, does anyone else have information on getting PhotoShop to work with the Xe MAX? The current situation isn't the worst thing in the world for me but it is offensive that something like this doesn't work.

Thanks.

I suggest you restrict your downloads to those only from Dell as the Intel site ones may not be optimised for your system.

I can’t help you, but I share your pain. I have a brand new 7506 too. For me, it crashes half a dozen time a day if both drivers are activated, no matter what I do. I can cancel the one that is not “max”, it stops crashing, but then excel and outlook don’t work and PowerPoint is extremely sluggish. That’s extremely frustrating for a laptop worth that much.

Hi Larry,

I have the same problems...  Did you try the Driver from Intel ?

Cheers
