Upgrade Network Card help

Some Inspiron systems only have 10/100 Ethernet built-in.  That can't be upgraded since that chip is on the motherboard, and unfortunately it looks like your system only has USB 2.0 ports rather than 3.0 ports.  USB 2.0 has a theoretical max of 480 Mb/s (and a real-world throughput less than that), so while a USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet adapter would still give you better performance, you don't have a way to get full Gigabit Ethernet into that system.  But if you want to get a USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet adapter anyway to get SOME additional performance, pretty much any adapter is fine.  You'll find that many of the various products on the market use the same Ethernet chipsets internally (if the product provides that information), in which case the only differences would be things like the chassis construction material (plastic vs. aluminum) and whether the adapter also included any other features.  For example, there are Ethernet adapters that also include one or more USB ports to compensate for the port on your system that you're losing by having an Ethernet adapter plugged in.  But if you just want a basic adapter, they're not difficult to find.  I tend to buy products like this from StarTech and Anker, but there are certainly other solid vendors.  As I said, just be aware that even with a Gigabit Ethernet adapter, you won't see Gigabit performance on your system because USB 2.0 will be the bottleneck.

When you mean its on the motherboard do you mean its made into/with the motherboard or is it a replaceable part on the motherboard?

@Lucas888  it's a chip soldered onto the motherboard, and since Dell wouldn't have sold a version of that system that came with a Gigabit Ethernet card, there's no other motherboard you could buy that would fit that system and include Gigabit.  If it was just a replaceable part on the motherboard, I'd have just said that rather than saying that you couldn't get Gigabit Ethernet on that system and explaining why.
