Using NVIDIA Graphics Card on Ispiron 7510

Inspiron 15 7510

Inspiron 15 7510

Hi,

I have a Dell Inspiron 7510 with a Intel UHD integrated and a NVIDIA 3050Ti dedicated card. I normally connect to 2 LG 27UN83A 4K 60Hz monitors via Thunderbolt 4 and it mainly uses the Intel intragated card rather than the NVIDIA one. I occasionally see the NVIDIA card show on Task Manager but its rare (even with the intel card on 90%). Ive tried connecting via HDMI and changing the settings on control panels to force a high performance usage. I am wondering:

1) When is the NVIDIA card used?

2) Is it possible to make it the default when connected to Thunderbolt 4?

3) How do the NVIDIA card and Intel UHD work together (having read some posts only the Intel Card has outputs).

One of the reasons I bought the laptop was it having a dedicated graphics card and thus a longer lifespan. Any knowledge and insights will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

1.  When the application you're running is set to use it.

2.  No.

3.  The nVidia GPU is a co-processor - it is not and cannot be a primary GPU.   If what you are looking for is a hardware-switchable true discrete GPU, that function is available on a few of the high-end G-series, a couple of the XPS 17 system configurations, and most Alienware and some Precision workstations.  It's not a feature your Inspiron 7510 offers.
