Windows 10 Key for Clean Install
Hi. I have an Inspiron 15 5558 and want to upgrade my HDD for an SSD. My old 1TB HDD will go into the DVD SATA port after I replace it with it's appropiate caddy (9.5mm).
The thing is I want to make a clean installation of windows (no recovery tool, since my current configuration of Windows 10 home is flawed by my fault) and I want to know if I install Windows 10 home from a DVD/USB on my SSD (and the HDD removed) the motherboard will automatically assign its serial key (this notebook had windows 10 home included).
I did the same thing with an HP envy and (IIRC) after the windows 10 installation, windows dindt asked me for validating it because apparently, it automatically detected the key from the mobo.
Thanks.

Once you have installed Windows 10 and activated it online, you have a digital license and it is attached to the BIOS. From that point on you can install the same version of Windows 10 as you previously activated as many times as you wish.

Yes your key is embedded in the ACPI tables of your UEFI BIOS. Windows 10 Installation Media will automatically input the OEM Product Key during installation and reactivate when online. If the system came with Windows 7 OEM, the key is on a COA but the key is not needed during installation as your motherboard details are registered with a Microsoft Product Server during the initial activation, you can clean install windows 10 without the key and it will automatically reactivate when online (the Microsoft Product Activation Server will recognise the motherboard details and reactivate it).
