Windows 10 Upadte Issues
I attempted to run Windows Update which ended with the following error:
"There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x800f0831)"
Model 5515 is about 2 weeks old. Earlier update attempts were successful but now it will not complete KB50077253. How can I resume updates successfully?

This web page has some suggestions that may help. And you can also download that specific update (for x64 based systems) here. The MS Update Catalogue is also a great place to find many drivers that you may not see elsewhere on the Internet.

This is what I have done so far. Nothing made a difference. "Fix 5" could not install the feature. and I didn't attempt "Fix 6".
From Update History:
KB5007186
Failed to install on 12/13/2021 - 0x800f0831
KB4023057
Successfully installed on 11/25/2021
Connections to Inspiron 5515:
No external storage connected (USB od SD slot)
USB 3.2 Gen 1 right side, Logitech wireless mouse
Laptop power connector
HDMI, external monitor
USB3.2 Gen 2, dongle for wired internet
Wireless printer HP Officejet pro 8600+ switched off, offline
Wireless printer Epson WF 7620 switched off, offline
Run Windows Update. Update returns:
There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x800f0831)
From this page: https://www.partitionwizard.com/partitionmagic/error-code-0x800f0831.html
… before starting our troubleshooting, you are recommended to try the following 2 tricks.
Install update manually. KB5007186
Go to: https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB5007186, download & install.
windows10.0-kb5007186-x64_bde6075c185987f552531a9da6db635ee758afff.msu
file not downloaded, potential security risk, chose to allow, save, and install. Process returned;
The following updates were not installed: KB5007186
Disable antivirus temporarily and repeat.
The process returned: The following updates were not installed: KB5007186
If the error is fixed, it’s nice! But if it still exists, just keep reading to get more fixes.
Fix 1: Use Windows Update Troubleshooter
Windows Update Troubleshooter can help you fix most Windows update issues. If you come across error code 0x800F0831 unfortunately, just employ this tool.
Step 1: Press Windows + I to invoke Settings.
Step 2: Navigate to Update & Security.
Step 3: Click Troubleshoot tab in the left pane. Additional troubleshooters – Windows Update
Step 4: Select Windows Update from the right pane and click Run the troubleshooter.
The process returned: The troubleshooter has made some changes to your system. Try attempting the task…
Run Windows Update again. Made it to 100% installed. Process returned:
There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x800f0831)
Fix 2: Run SFC Scan
You might fail to install Windows updates and receive error 0x800F0831 if some related system files are missing or corrupted. In the scenario, you can use System File Check (SFC) to scan your system file and replace the corrupted data with locally cached files.
Step 1: Press Windows + R to invoke Run.
Step 2: Input cmd and press Ctrl + Shift + Enter to run Command Prompt as administrator.
Step 3: Type the command sfc /scannow and press Enter.
Your PC will start scanning and this will take a while. After the process is complete, restart your computer to see if the error is fixed.
Process returned:
Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.
Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.
Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.
I didn’t bother restarting since there were no integrity violations.
Fix 3: Disable Proxy
Proxy server is another common factor that may interfere with Windows update and lead to error 0x800F0831. You can follow the steps below to disable your Proxy server.
Note: If you are using VPN on your computer, you’d better to disable your VPN connection as well. I have no vpn. I do not use a proxy.
Step 1: Input inetcpl.cpl in Run dialog and click OK to open Internet Options window.
Step 2: Switch to Connections tab and click LAN settings button.
Step 3: Uncheck both Automatically detect settings and Use a proxy server for your LAN.
Step 4: Click OK in both windows to save changes.
Run Update again?? I did run update again. Made it to 100%. Process returned:
There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x800f0831)
I restarted and tried again. Process returned:
There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x800f0831)
Fix 4: Change Windows Update Service
Sometimes, the Windows Update service might be disabled for odd reasons, and thus cause updates installation failure. If it is applicable in your case, you can modify the properties for Windows Update service to fix the issue.
Step 1: Type services.msc in Run box and click OK to open Services app.
Step 2: Right-click Windows Update service and choose Properties.
Step 3: Set the Startup type to Automatic and make sure its status is Running. If it is Stopped, click Start to enable it. It was set at automatic (delayed start) but status was stopped. I started.
Step 4: Click Apply and OK to save the changes you have made.
Once it’s done, restart your computer and check if you can update your Windows smoothly.
Process returned:
There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x800f0831)
Fix 5: Enable .NET Framework 3.5
When you get error code 0x800F0831, perhaps .NET Framework 3.5 is disabled. It has confirmed that this issue can be fixed by enabling it.
Step 1: Open Control Panel.
Step 2: Go to Programs > Programs and Features.
Step 3: Click Turn Windows features on or off.
Step 4: In Windows Feature window, make sure .NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0) is checked and click OK.
It was not checked. I checked & click OK. App could not find files and asked to download from Update. I said download from Update. Returned: “the system cannot find the file specified. Error code 0d80070002”. I repeated the process and checked “.NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0) and clicked OK. Still not turned on. I ran Update Troubleshooter again. Restarted and retried update.
You will get a confirmation prompt, and you just need to click Yes to continue. Then, restart your computer to check if this solution works. I ran Update again. Process returned:
There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x800f0831)
Fix 6: Perform System Restore
I stopped here.
