Windows 10 with older Studio 1555
Old Dell Studio laptop:
New 500GB SSD
64-bit Win10
4GB RAM
Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 @ 2.00GHz
On boot: I have to press F1 because the power adaptor is jank. Says it can't charge the battery properly. I have to leave it plugged in. Okay. NBD.
Was going to upgrade the ram to 8GB... Okay. It can Emulate and stream from Steam off my 2060s/i5-9400F 2.90GHz/16GB machine. Check...
Don't tell me the processor is going bad in the laptop. I read that the heat sink is garbage in these older laptops... It did sit for a couple years, and I remembered I had it in the basement.
It boots, run for a little bit (like an hour or so) I hear the USB unplug sound, then Blue Screen of Death. Runs into a problem, re-boots, then says Media check failed, No operating system. I turn it off, turn it on, press F1, and it loads Win10.
I monitored the temps, and the CPU is getting up to 75 degrees C. I did some research, and I think I need a BIOS update. With Win10, that might be a problem.
Kinda worried about it...

Your XP and Vista model is not even approved for Windows 8 so you are stuck with windows 7 drivers. You will have problems running Windows 10. The one thing to do is to replace the coin cell battery since the computer had been sitting unused for so long. That's a cheap $1 expense.

The last bios is from 2011--there will not be anymore. Time to buy a new computer.

I'm hoping all I need to do is cool it better. It runs Win10 just fine (other than temps), but if I have to, I'll run Win7.

Run Dell Diagnostics and see whether it detects a hardware problem.

Literally looked all day to try and find a solution. Installed Speed Fan. Tried a cmd line code someone made on Github to increase fan speed. Had someone tell me to put a copper shim between the CPU and the heat sink. (Ummm?) Even called my local PC shop, and they said they could replace the fan and apply new thermal paste.
Read a ton of articles saying Dell messed up the design, and finally resorted to this:
I took my new SSD out of the Studio and put it in an Inspiron I had. Everything booted up normally (idky, but I didn't expect that) and it has yet to shut off. The fans will intermittently boost, but nothing crazy.
Idek what to do with this Studio. I do like it, but why? Should I put Win7 on it so my dad can surf the internet and email and such? (He needs a computer, but not really. He has his phone.) Or should I just try and put Linux on it or something to goof around and learn Linux?
Either way. Dell? I know it's an Laptop but... ya know what?.. nvm... I'm done.
LOLLLLLLLLLLL.

Machine is too old for windows 10
But that's not a reason for buying a new computer
Run UBUNTU
