Windows 11 - How do I use the DATA (D:) second drive for my user profile and data?

I'm in the process of transferring data from my Windows 10 Inspiron 5759 to my new Inspiron 5400 A10.

My new primary drive is 220GB SSD and the secondary SATA HDD which I would like to set up to with my user profile to store data.

I was able set up the User folder, with my "personal" folder on D, using the solution provided on this forum for Windows 10. However, It doesn't seem to work properly on Windows 11.

It seems like my documents/data are split up between folders on both the C: and drives which is very confusing. Does Windows 11 support this option of storing the User file on D:?  I don't want to fill up the C: drive with my data, etc.

Perhaps it's the Permissions on my storage drive's User, etc., folders causing a problem ?

Do I need to retain the OS C: Users folder with my "personal" folder, along with the Public folder on the or can it be deleted? I have the same User folders on my DATA (D:) drive  It won't allow me to delete the Cloud One Drive from the Users 'My Name' folder on the C: drive, stating it's in use in another folder.

Thank you for your help.

Your ssd drive does not have 220gb. It has only up to 32gb. You are confusing size with the model number. The manual says this- One 2.5-inch hard drive and one M.2 2230 solid-state drive-- Up to 1 TB

Open Disk Management by right clicking on the Start button and selecting it to see a visual of all he drives on the computer. It is important to make the D drive the default storage drive for all files and downloads.

Thanks for getting back to me. Here's what I do have, attached in a couple files. I believe the PCIe Gen3.0x4 NVMe, up to 32 Gbps, is the speed at which it reads, not the size, which is what I was referring to in my message. I wasn't referring to the SSD drive as my Data Storage drive. I needed to remove the User folder from the SSD drive. Sorry for the confusion.

I had already allocated the drive as the data drive.

My problem is that I'm asking if I need to keep the User folder on the C: drive, if I already created one on the drive? I'm having problems deleting the C: drive User folder. It won't let me delete it.

My advice would be to only move folders Windows allowed.  we have had folks doing upgrades which could not complete due to irregular configurations on their systems.

Maybe getting a larger drive would be a good option.

@cadelc Odd that you have 3(!) recovery partitions in your C:\

I agree with @Saltgrass  to not mess around with the Windows folders. Get a larger SSD if 250GB isn't enough.

Was there a solution to this problem?  I’m moving from a Dell windows 10 to a Dell windows 11. How do I migrate to the data drive?
