Hyper-V over SMB 3.0 on Isilon 7.1.1.4
We are attempting to utilize our Isilon as a location for our Hyper-V VM's.
Can anyone provide some information/guidance on getting started with this? Is this still not possible with the current implementation of SMB 3 on the Isilon?
We have Hyper-V pointed to a share we created on the Isilon, and successfully created the VM. However when we try to start the VM we get the following error message;
thanks,
Brian

Hello BrianClark ,
Thank you for your question! SMB3 is supported starting in OneFS version 7.1.1 and later:
We do have this listed in our Supportability and Compatibility Guide. [Requires login to EMC Online Support]
Troubleshooting this issue will more than likely require gathering packet captures of the conversation as the VM is deployed and the attempt to start the VM; for this reason, I would recommend creating an SR with Support to go over this issue with you. To create a service request, you have a couple options:
1. Log in to your online account on support.emc.com and go to this page: https://support.emc.com/servicecenter/createSR
2. Call in to EMC Isilon Support at 1-800-782-4362 (For a complete local country dial list, please see this document: http://www.emc.com/collateral/contact-us/h4165-csc-phonelist-ho.pdf)
It is important that Support know which protocols you are using to deploy the VM and to store the VM datastore in order to get you the correct resource assigned to your case right away. This will help move your case to resolution in the quickest way. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.

Just to clarify a bit here, as taken out of context this might be confusing. As of OneFS 7.1.1, Isilon implemented one feature of SMB3 called Multichannel. This feature is still the only thing supported in all shipping releases. OneFS does not yet support things like SMB3 Continuous Availability, etc. That, and additional SMB3 support comes in the next major OneFS release.
I don't know that much about Hyper-V, but I seem to recall that it wants to use SMB3-CA and possibly other HA features of SMB3, which of course won't work on the Isilon today.
As Katie said, the best thing to do is to open a Support case.

I can pretty much guarantee it's looking for SMB3 CA which is not released yet. We can't speak about this publicly until release, so feel free to reach out to your account team to discuss the details under NDA.

All, sorry for leaving this for so long, I had a few other items trump this.
I think you all might be right, and I just overlooked the fact that multi channel and CA are potentially two separate things.
I will open a support ticket just to verify what was said here, as well as to find out a rough estimate as to when we would be looking at full SMB 3 support for Isilon.
thanks,
Brian
