NFS File Size Limitations from OneFS?
In reading the "NFS File Migration to EMC Isilon" white paper, I found a table (page 34 and 35) that states, in part, there is a 4TB limit hardcoded by OneFS for "File Size". That whitepaper was written back in 2014 but I assume this is still the case? We are running OneFS v.8.0.0.2.
We are trying to vmotion some VM's and the process is failing on some. The log (from the vmotion process) suggests we're out of space on the target (not true and not bumping against any quota). We do see that failing datastores consists of single files greater than 4TB which led me back to the whitepaper.
The whitepaper suggests that job engine performance can be impacted above 4TB. Assuming this is still the case and we just have to work within those limits, would we be better off keeping file sizes down well under that 4TB maximum or do people find it OK (performance-wise) to use up to the limit (with having multiple files)? Thanks for the insight.

OneFS as of today still has a 4TB file limit. If you want to know about future enhancements in this or other areas, reach out to your SE and they can discuss these things under NDA.
