2 part Q about E1705 display...
I ordered an E1705 w/ the nVidia 7800 card and am loving it. But I've noticed two things that are starting to make me anxious. One, when I close the lid it goes into hibernation yet when I open it, it may or may not require me to close and reopen it for screen to come up. This may be due to the OS or something since I did swap out the HDD (5400rpm? no thanks... plus I have a spare now), but I'm not sure. Either way, I know the screen should becoming up every time I open it and it currently is not behaving that way.
The second thing I noticed is probably the bigger issue of the two. After swapping the HDD and installing everything fresh (OS, dirvers, etc.) I've seen the screen flash black for a split second. It's like a refresh rate problem. But I can't adjust the refresh rate in the video properties. The black screen flash seems to occur more often, though not very frequent (about once every hour to hour and a half), while playing video games like SW: Battle Front or FFXI. What should I check before calling Dell's tech support for both of my questions? ...will I need to send it back? ;_; Thank you for your time.
Current specs:
E1705
1.8Ghz/667fsb
nVidia 7800 w/ 256mb
80gig SATA @ 7200rpm
512mb DDR2 PC4200 (2gig DDR2 PC5300 on the way)

...any way, I updated to the same driver as you and it freaked me out at first by flashing several times after logging in. No flashes yet. I'll post a follow up later. Thank you. :)

I bought generic memory from 4allmemory.com Originally placed two seperate orders of 1 gig ddr2 pc5300. Of course, they couldn't be paired. Called them, told them what I wanted and what I got. They were friendly about it. Fast service.
Need to shop around for a 9cell battery now...
