AC Power Adapter Problem
I got a new Inspiron i3542 at the end of August and I've been having a problem with the power. I've been using the 65w adapter that came with the computer but anytime I plug it in I receive the following box:
Because I use my laptop as a desktop most of the time I have not encountered severe problems but now that I have noticed the battery is not charging. I saw a number of similar problems for other laptops, but I don't want to use the BIOS method of turning the warning off to prevent other problems such as myself doing something wrong in the BIOS. How might I try to remedy this problem?

Hi PeterGunth,
Welcome to the Dell Community.
Kindly click on the link here: http://dell.to/1rEmQhQ Punch in the service tag of your Inspiron laptop. Select the option and Drivers and downloads; Download and install the latest BIOS update.
Also try using another adapter to see if the issue persist.
If the above steps doesn’t provide any resolution. Kindly private message me the service tag of your laptop. You can locate the service tag using the link here: http://dell.to/1vPUTVH
To private message the service tag, click on my User name and click "start conversation".
Awaiting your response!

After successfully updating my BIOS the battery is still not being charged. I also tried removing the battery & inspecting all connection points on the charger for signs of damage and found none. Currently my computer is drawing power from the charger and does not charge or draw power from the battery unless unplugged.

Does the battery charge when the laptop is OFF? If so, you need the next larger power supply to both run and charge.

No, the battery does not charge while the computer is off. At this point I have ruled out all forms of software problem, meaning the problem is either the charger itself, the battery itself, or my computer's power plug.

Hi Peter,
Try using a good known adapter and see if the battery charges or not.
