Bill,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Try updating the keyboard repeat rate in the Control Panel.

I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 Notebook, just a couple of months old.

When I type the letters "i" or "p" the output is "io" and "po" resepectively. Happens randomly. Thought it was related to overheating but laptop is currently cold and same problem. Just typing this message has been a nightmare with having to backspace after every i and p I type.

Any suggestions? Is this a mechanical issue or a fixable bug? And no...I've not spilled anything on my keypad or dropped the laptop from a great height.

Thanks for any suggestions...

Steven

That is the same problem I was having. I hav tried everything - changing keyboard rate, reinstalling operating system using F11 at boot, tightening screws, etc. after 5 calls to tech support, they are replacing my computer.

Oddly, this is the same kind of problem that th 3800 series had that brought a law suit. i had my keyboard and motherboard replaced several times but nothing ever fixed the problem on that computer.

That sounds ominous. Thanks for advanced warning, could be some trouble ahead getting this sorted then, and a lot of inconvenience....

For approx 30 mins today I had no problems at all....then it started again.

I have  a 3800 and  I  replaced the keyboard and the keys  sttill repeatts.  i slowed tthe repeat rate to as  sslow as it will go .

No correction to above, that's how it repeats.

I tried to post this and they would not let me because the s repeated in as, and it was determined to be naughty, sso I took out the extra s in as.

I still have the same error, but it appears that the letter "O" is sticking and therefore the letters to the left and right of this key, "i" and "p" respectively, are effected also.

I did receive some suggestions from Dell Support that you may or may not have tried already...not sure how helpful the suggestions will prove to be in your own case.
