Alienware TouchPad Problem

Hey guys I've got a very strange problem with my touchpad, for some reason it keeps disabling itself, whether a USB mouse is plugged in or not. It is enabled in settings, it responds to commands (its not dead) because I see the icon on the task bar light up every time a button is pressed or my finger moves over the pad.

It is only disabled when I log on...so frustrating!! If I log off, on the choose user screen, it works!! as soon as I log in and my desktop is shown, it doesn't work at all! Reinstalled drivers, tried enabling/disabling touchpad using Alienware control center and device manager.

How can something so trivial be causing so much havok? Could some spyware/virus be doing this? Cheers.

download the DELL diagnostics CD (ISO image), burn it on a CD, start your laptop with it and do a touchpad test.

If that's ok, Check for the latest revision of the touchpad driver at the manufacturer site.

Install the latest driver and try again.

Hi

I have a similar problem. When ever I log off/shut down my touch pad disables. I have to re-download the drivers to ensure it works or plug in a usb driver.

I rang dell and they said it may be because of an update has over written the driver however that is rubbish.

Has anyone had a similar issue, as this is so frustrating?
