Beep-Beep sound when I turn on my laptop

Hello!

I just have bought Dell laptop Inspiron 15R n5520. I got it delivered this morning. I red the instructions and did as it said. I connected the power adapter and pressed the power button. It seemed like laptop turns on but in the end all I got is white glowing screen and weird beep-beep sound.  Laptop is already charging for hours and it still do not work... What should I do?

Thanks!

Hi migoolink,

Welcome to the Community,

The computer might emit a series of beeps during start-up if the LCD cannot display errors or problems.Beep codes can be used as diagnostic indicator.

3 beeps on your system model indicates system board failure. If you haven't try releasing flea power. To release flea power disconnect the AC adapter, remove battery, disconnect all external peripherals(USB devices) and then press and hold power button for 30 seconds.Reconnect only the AC adapter and battery then turn on the system.

Even after releasing flea power if you continue to get 3 beeps on start up then private message me your system Service Tag number. To private message click on my user name and click start conversation.

I will check your system warranty details and get back to you with repair options.

Thank You

Hi!

I bought my Dell N4050 about 2 months ago and it was working fine until today.  When I opened it, there's a loud beep on my welcome screen followed by a high pitched noise. I managed to log on to my computer. Then, I restarted it to be sure. There's still the beep but the high pitched was gone. I'm now using it like before but I don't know what will I do if the above situation persists again. Please help.

Hi  the_lau,

Welcome to the Community,

Beeps codes as mentioned in my previous response can be used as Diagnostic indicator on a No Post situation(i.e when the system turns on but there is no display).

As your system is booting normally to Windows, the beep sound is not related to the diagnostic beep codes. To make sure it is not hardware related you may try running the onboard hardware diagnostics(tap F12 on start up,Dell logo and select Diagnostics).

Post back error code/message if any.

Also press and check all the keys on the keyboard to make sure they are not stuck.

Thank You

No error codes or messages. Everything passed and the keyboard seems okays. Still, there's that one beep and a long high-pitched noise when on startup. Do I need to bring it to the shop where I bought the machine?

Hi the_lau,

It looks like the hardware is fine.

Did you recently install any new software/application on the system? If you're not sure you may access Programs and Features, select Installed On(date)  and check if you find any unfamiliar or new application installed just before you started having this issue.

If you find any such application/software you may try uninstalling it and check if you continue to get the beep sound on start up.

Hi snlchndl,

Welcome to the Community.

The computer might emit a series of beeps during start-up if the LCD cannot display errors or problems. The following repetitive beep codes can help to identify the issue:

Beeps Description Possible Cause
1 BIOS ROM checksum in progress or failure System board failure, covers BIOS corruption or ROM errors.
2 No Memory (RAM) detected Memory or Memory slot failure
3
  • chipset Error (North and South bridge error, DMA/IMR/Timer error)
  • Time-Of-Day Clock test failure
  • Gate A20 failure
  • Super I/O chip failure
  • Keyboard controller test failure
System board failure
4 Memory read / write failure Memory failure
5 Real Time Clock (RTC) power fail CMOS battery failure
6 Video BIOS test failure Video subsystem failure
7 CPU Cache test failure Processor failure
8 LCD LCD failure

Could you confirm the number of beeps you hear? Try to release flea power.Disconnect AC adapter, remove battery, disconnect all external peripherals(USB devices),press and hold power button for 30 seconds.Reconnect battery and AC adapter.Turn on system and check if system starts normally.

Thank You

My Dell Inspirion 15r 5520 is only 11 weeks old and it is not starting. When I boot it keeps making beep sound for infinite number of times until I force shut down.It starts making the beep sound after a few seconds of pressing the power button.Nothing appears on the screen. This problem started from last week but then restarting used to work.Recently my system had become very slow as well.Used to freeze very often while working. It used to show more than 50-60% of memory usgae and 99-100% disk usage in the task manager!

Please help me to find a solution.

The number of beep is neither of the above! It just keeps beeping on and on and on and on! And I did try releasing the flea power release and restarting it.Its not working :(

Hi Sonali,

The beep will be continues but each beep code consists of series of beep(it shows a pattern/sequence).For example beep code 4 represents a series of 4 beeps where:

The delay between each beep will be 300 Ms.

The delay between each set of beeps is 3 seconds.

The duration of each single beep is 300 Ms.

Please try to identify the number of beep codes(observe any pattern) as this will help us identify the issue.

Hi Sandeep,

Welcome to the Community,

Beeps codes can be used as diagnostics indicator. However since the system is no longer turning on, you may try releasing flea power. To release flea power disconnect AC adapter, remove battery, press and hold power button for 30 seconds. Reconnect battery and AC adapter, turn on system.

If the issue persists, check and let me know the following:

1. When you connect the AC adapter to the system, does the LED on the AC adapter turn off?

2. Is there any sign of system receiving power? Does any of  the LED on the system turn on when you press the power  button?

Thank You
