A memory dump is what happens just before, or at the time, the OS crashes. It would be best to update the BIOS to the latest version. That's why Dell put out BIOS updates. To fix problems with older ones.

What causes a crash/memory dump. Well it could be some bad software, a bad driver or the notebook is overheating. While your at the Dell download site get all the most recent drivers for your notebook also.

I have worked on friends 2650 that she would use on her bed, lap, and other soft surfaces. Doing this will overheat the unit because it can't breathe.

Ed C is right about updating the BIOS and Drivers

BIOS: http://support.dell.com/filelib/download.aspx?FileID=94397&c=us&l=en&s=gen&Category=0&OS=WW1&OSL=EN&SvcTag=&SysID=INS_PNT_P4N_2650&DeviceID=2415&Type=&ReleaseID=R72463

I would definitely update the video driver.

The big question would be when did you get the memory dump error or what application were you closing or opening?

It happened twice the first time in Dec (when I called tech support). Both times it has been when I started the computer right after I logged on before I even opened any program. I don't remember where the first time but the 2d time I was at my desk and had just turned the computer on so it wasn't overheating.

There are 3 BIOS updates should I update them all. I will follow your suggestion to update the video driver. Thank you both.

You only need to do the latest, as it includes all the changes that worked in the previous versions.
