BOOT MGR is missing
I'm running a Dell Latitude D620, which is running Windows XP. I was given the computer so I do not have the exact disk that came with it, but I do have several installation discs for Vista, XP, etc.
I was cleaning up and compressed my drives and began receiving BOOTMGR is compressed. I googled and attempted to fix it myself and now receive the error message BOOTMGR is missing.
I am fairly savvy at running computers but have NO idea how to program/control/fix/repair, etc. I am able to get to the command prompt, but don't know where to go from there. Can anyone help?

Boot to a command prompt with a WIndows disc containing the same version that's on the hard drive and type
fixmbr (enter)
then
Fixboot (enter)
Restart.

Oh! Also, if this would help (and I know it should, but can't figure out how to make it), I have an exact copy of my entire harddrive on an external hard drive... but don't know how to boot from it.
