Broken Hinge for Latitude E5420

Dear Sir,

Myself Amal S working as a Scientist at Institute for Plasma Research, Bhat, Gandhinagar, Gujarat-382428, India. The right hinge of my laptop(Dell Latitude E5420) has broken when I tried to open my laptop LCD screen. Before the hinge was broken some sounds were observed regularly from right
hinge portion of the laptop while closing and opening of LCD screen . I have purchased this laptop from DGS & D on 21.06.2012. Service Tag Number of my Laptop is <ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed as per privacy policy>.

When I contacted the Dell Service centre at Ahmedabad they said me that they dont have the servicing facility for Dell Latitude E5420 model. Now what should I do to repair my laptop by replacing the broken hinge?

Since the right hinge is broken the other hinge is also not functioning normally as it is having higher stress while opening and closing of LCD screen. If I continue to use the system with one broken hinge the other hinge will soon give way.So Kindly help me in this matter as early as you can.

Thanking You

With Regards

Amal S

If the system is in warranty, call Dell -- they should be able to arrange mail-in service.

If it's out of warranty, just about any computer shop can change the hinge assembly (they'll both need to be changed anyway).

If the system is in warranty, Dell's standard support is that you call, arrange repair  and they ship you a box.   You send the system to a repair depot, and receive the  system back 7-10 business days later.

Make sure there is no physical damage to the system's case -- otherwise, the damage will likely be deemed accidental and not covered by warranty.
