Cable lock connection concern
I recently purchased a Targus Defcon CL locking device for my Latitude (C840). While the locking device is itself no more than a steel cable tied to a combination lock, the real concern is the flimsy "lock ports" found on both sides of the notebook. With the lock in place on the laptop, it appears easy enough to just twist and break the side panel off (of course I haven't verified this myself). Has anyone noticed this problem(?) or found a roundabout solution of securing a similar machine?

As long as you can keep the APR secured, your laptop won't go anywhere because the apr is locked.

Hibugler,
Did you ever get a response that does not involve buying an expensive port replicator?
I foolishly bought a Targus Defcon CL laptop cable lock before seeing your post and before looking at my laptop to see how it attached.
I have a Dell Insprion 8200.
The fingers of the metal lock slip through a oblong hole in the plastic sidewall of the case and then expand. The plastic on the sides of the hole does not seem to be reinforced by metal.
It seems like a trivial exercise for someone to rip the lock out as only thin plastic retains the fingers of the lock inside the laptop case. I was expecting a more secure attachment point and that the potential thief would have to use at least bolt cutters to cut the cable or do serious damage to the case. It looks like they can rip it out and just leave a slightly larger hole in the side of the case.
Is this how the Latitude and all laptops are designed? Is there a better system?
