Cannot Change Boot Sequence Order in BIOS

I've searched the Internet and these forums to no avail... so here's my post.

I just bought a used Latitude L400 (cleaned out). I go into the BIO (by pressing F2) but cannot change the order of the boot sequence as it is locked. It says that the boot sequence cannot be change while logged in as "User", must be changed by "Supervisor".

Under the password section, the Supervisor and the User password are both cleared. The HD password, however, is locked. I'm not sure if this is why I can't change the boot sequence, but I can't reach an option to change the HD password.

Currently, to boot "normally" I have to press F12 and manually select boot from Internal HD.

How do I change the boot sequence?

Disconnect the CMOS Battery and leave it it overnight before reconnecting it. You may have to replace the Harddrive

i just recently had the very same problem.  i had to format a floppy into ms-dos format and download the bios update to ao9.  as soon as i installed the update the bios settings were accessible.
