If you could let us know what "line" your PC freezes on when trying to boot in Safe Mode (no networking) it may help someone figure out what is going on.
Hmm just as I finished typing that, it eventually logged in, and I could log in to the desktop too. Im now doing System Restore - fingers crossed it fixes the problem.......
Nope. Still taking ages at the Windows XP loading page. Any ideas??
If you ever succeed in completely logging in, try doing a disk cleanup. Excessive login time can be caused by too much stuff in your profile.
You also ought to create yourself a separate admin account to troubleshoot issues like this. If your other account logs in quickly, then you know you're lugging too much junk around.
Also, try backing up your important work now and then.
I have the exact problem as reported by iamstevie. I have a Dell Inspiron 600m with XP-Pro. I was finally able to reach chkdsk and went through the process but no change. Safe mode boot up stops for prolonged period on teh agpCPQ.sys line. Are there drivers I should reload?
Did you ever get a fix to this problem. I have the exact same problem but mine is a Dell Inspiron 600m with XP-Pro. Please pass along any fix you found.
Well yeah the problem eventually got fixed... but I dont know how! It randomly started managing to log in fine, and then suddenly the problem disappeared and Ive been fine ever since.
Afraid I cant be of more help. if you haven't already, try contacting Dell technical support, rather than just the forums

The line it stops on is:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\agpCPQ.sys

Kind of like going to the Doctor. By the time you get in, everything quit hurting!
I hope it works out for you!
