The S-vedio connector on your laptop is video out only.

To the best of my knowledge..... Usually you can connect a camcorder through the Firewire port (or USB ?).  Aside from that something like the WinTV USB-2.0 will allow you to input video, listen to FM radio, and has a TV tuner (but you neet external speakers as there is in audi in jack on the laptop). Can you talk more about connecting the camcorder (S-video) to the Inspiron 5150 through a firewire port?  What's a firewire port; do I have one?

Rhudie,

First your camcorder has to have a Firewire port, your 5150 does have a firewire port with 4pins (no power to it) so you might need a power adapter.

Gotta run to dinner

No, you don't need a power adaptor. All you need is a four pin to four pin firewire cable (assuming that the firewire port on your video camera looks like the one on your laptop. If it's not and it's bigger, then you need to get a 6 pin to 4 pin firewire cable.) Plug your firewire cable into your laptop's firewire port, then the other into the firewire port (ieee 1394/sony i link). Then put your camera into vcr mode and the computer should sense the camera and promt you to take an action.
