COM-Port Latitude E5430
Hello!
We use E-series notebooks with the port replicator because we still need a COM1 port working in MS-DOS mode. Until now (until E5420) all worked fine.
But now, starting from E5430, our MS-DOS System (booted from CD) does not recognize the COM1 port any more.
Virtualisation does not work for us, so we have to boot directly to MS-DOS.
Any ideas how we can make the COM1 port work again?
Thanks.

Hello,
I have exactly the same problem, I tried to fix it by creating a virtual machine windows98, but the result is not 100% working.
Anyway serial port is not recognised by MSD in dos.
Unfortunately nobody at DELL is able to give support for that...
Good luck

Hi!
After some searching i got some of my needs working with DOSBox.
To activate the serial port you have to change a line in the config file: serial1=directserial realport:com1
This way i made a 16 bit application work under Windows 7 x64 today.
For further purposes you also can try to run MS-DOS in DOSBox:
http://www.transmissionzero.co.uk/computing/installing-msdos-in-dosbox/
Depending on your software you maybe have a chance to make it work. I didnt test all, but seems the interlnk/intersvr wich i need works with this configuration. Only one way, but works.
Hope this helps you.
