COM Port missing

Greetings,

I am running a Studio 1555 with Phoenix Bios rev A13 and Windows 7. Two days ago, I allowed MIcrosoft to update the software. After that, my COM port was missing. I found this out when I connected my Uno board and was unable to communicate with it. Then I found that the COM port section was no longer showing in the Device Manager.

I have unhidden the areas in the Device Manager and still don't see the COM ports.

I have rebooted and used F2 to get to the bios but don't find anything about COM ports there.

Any ideas on how to get my COM ports back?

This has been most frustrating.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I seriously doubt that you had an actual COM port on your laptop.

Try re-installing the Arduino IDE which creates a virtual COM port.

OK, I believe you are correct. The Uno connects with a USB cable. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Arduino software several times and even changed back to earlier version, however, nothing has made the COM work. I have searched the Arduino help forum and that is where I got the suggestion to enable the legacy COM port.

Still doesn't work.

Any more ideas?
