Connect two external monitors (along w/laptop screen) to Docking Station pr03x

I am having trouble connecting two external monitors to my Dell pr03x docking station.  Being able to do so would give me a total of three visual displays (including the laptop screen on my Dell Latitude E5530).

Scenarios and their results:

(1) The laptop monitor and first external monitor both work when I plug the first external monitor in to the docking station using the VGA cable.  When I attempt to add the second external monitor by using a DVI cable, the first monitor shuts down and is overridden by the second monitor.

(2) The laptop monitor and first external monitor both work when I plug the first external monitor in to the docking station using the VGA cable.  When I attempt to add the second external monitor by using a USB cable, there is no response by the second monitor.

In both scenarios above, I am unable to operate three visual displays (two external and one laptop screen) at the same time as desired.

Any assistance is sincerely appreciated.

Hi,

Multiple displays are controlled by your video card driver and/or Windows.   Right click on your desktop (anywhere) and select Personalize.   You'll want to get to your Screen Resolution / Change the appearance of your display.

I just tested this on my system (dual monitors thru a Dell docking station with no display being processed by the laptop LCD).   My laptop display was grayed out.  Click on it to highlight it, and you should see the details of the display listed below in the dropdown lists.  it probably is set to "Disconnect this display", change that to either duplicate other displays or extend to this display, click Apply, and you should see the monitors refresh and the display should now be working.  (it may take a few minutes depending on your video card and amount of memory, as well as how many other applications are open).

If you like it, then make sure you save the changes.

Let me know if you have any problems.

Hi Todd--

Thanks for your help.  Unfortunately, it is not the case.

I get two monitors in the "Change the appearance of your displays" screen. One is the laptop monitor, and the other one is the first external monitor that is connected to the docking station with the VGA cable. Both of these are operational and indicate "Extend these displays" in the Multiple displays option.

When I then connect the second external monitor to the docking station with the DVI cable and click "Detect", a box shows up at the top (next to the illustrations of my two working monitors) that says, "Another display not connected".

Any additional help is still very appreciated.

I am having the same problem, using a Latitude E6440 connected to a dock and two Dell monitors. I've been using the laptop with a single external Dell monitor for a long time, but wanted to add a second. The system won't recognize the second monitor. The working monitor is plugged into the dock, while the second monitor is plugged into the VGA port on the laptop itself. A google search reveals this to be a common problem. I hope Dell can resolve the issue.
