Connecting to Digital Camera?
I am considering the purchase of Inspiron 9100 with a CD/DVD burner, and I'm trying to determine how I will accomplish some tasks, and hope that some of you experienced folks can point me in the right direction.
I have an Olympus D-400 zoom digital camera, that came with a PC serial cable to connect it to my computer. (I also have a Flashpath floppy disk adapter, but hate to use it because it is so slow.) As far as I can tell, the 9100 does not come with a serial port. Do you know if (a) I can connect my camera to a USB port by using a serial-->USB adapter/connector (if there is such a thing) or (b) order a serial port for the Inspiron 9100? Or does my camera have to be configured differently before I can use a USB connection?
My other problem is that I have all of my photo collection saved on Zip disks, and a zip drive is not one of the options for the 9100. Any suggestions for the best way to handle this problem, since I don't have a CD burner on my present computer?
Thanks in advance - much appreciated.

I'm posting my solutions in case someone else is thinking about this too. After talking with my son, I am buying a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 8-in-1 media Reader/Writer so that I can read my SmartMedia cards. This will connect to my new notebook via one of the USB ports. This will read the card much faster then messing around with a serial -> USB cable connector. Lots of other advantages too, such as the ability to read other card formats in case I upgrade my camera or purchase other devices that have memory cards.
I'm also getting a 250MB Zip250 External Slim Drive - USB connection. It's the only way I can retrieve the data from my zip disks.
The Enspiron 9100 has 4 USB 2.0 ports, and a IEEE1394 port (firewire), so it should be pretty easy to hook up external drives.
