D600 Hibernates without Warning
I am having trouble with my Latitude D600, A06 bios, running Windows XP SP1 with all critical updates, going into hibernation without warning. About half the time I get a warning a couple of minutes in advance, but half the time it will hibernate immediately with no warning. This is annoying at the least and a minor problem if I am in the middle of a task such as a file transfer, etc.; most recently it caused a process to remain open on a server I was accessing.

Tad,
Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
Check the Power Management settings on your system. These would be located in the Control Panel. You may also want to check the Power settings in the BIOS to see if they are affecting your system.

I have only a single battery.
I agree that the Latitude "D" has "warts" that are not addressed or resolved by the KnowledgeBase, including these that I have experienced: power problems, trackpad problems, noise problems, DVD problems. Unfortunately this may be "par for the course" when it comes to the newest technologies from any vendor.

Do you have two batteries???
There seems to be a problem with the D600 in that if you have both the primary battery installed and the modular bay battery installed when the first battery is discharged the system shuts down - there are quite a few posts in the forum about this.
It would seem that the D600 has quite a few warts and flaws that Dell is quite content to ignore.

tadwoods,
did you ever solve the problem? My D600 shows the same behavior. So I started a new thread about this.

agree with this post. i just got the a/c adapter not recognized issue resolved, and now I am dealing with this one. This is definitely a problem pc.
First major problem i have had with 30 purchased dell computers. Worst part is the poor support Dell has gone to with the off shore help center that makes you go through checks you have already done, and are not as good as the old tech support was.

dondson,
On a separate issue with my DVD+RW drive, I too felt that the "new offshore support" was insulting my intelligence when they forced me to go through steps that I had already been through, and afterwards still refused to acknowledge that the problem could be something wrong with the hardware. Support definitely has an additude that if it isn't 100% broken then there is nothing to be repaired.
So, I wrote Dell a polite and thorough email describing the problem and requesting the DVD module be replaced. I fully expected Dell to tell me to call support (again), but to my pleasant surprise Dell agreed with me and shipped me a replacement module, which 100% fixed the problem.
In the end, I give Dell high marks for their support. You have to be persistent and patient. I have three outstanding issues that I have not pushed, and probably won't due to the time it takes: (1) this hibernating issue, (2) the trackpad periodically failing, (3) random screen flicker.
