Datasafe issues
I've downloaded and installed Datasafe. Am I correct in thinking that I need the premium version to do a restore from an emergency backup. When I run the datasafe executable in the emergency backup folder I get tyhe message that the archive is corrupt or empty!!! Is there a repair tool available?
Thanks

Hi hdtservices,
Datasafe Local Basic backup supports the restoration of files from the emergency backup folder. Please find the detailed comparison of Datasafe Local Basic & Premium backup. Refer to the image below:

Note: Click the following link to download and install the DSL (Datasafe Local) application in your computer:
http://bit.ly/bbYoho
After the DSL is installed, restart your computer and follow the below mentioned steps to restore the files that you backed up:
- Click 'Start / Pearl' icon
- In 'Search Programs & Files' type 'Datasafe local'
- Click Datasafe Local Backup programs from the search results
- Click 'Yes' to the 'User Access Control' prompt (Following screen appears)
- Click 'Next'
- You may select either one of the options and click 'Next'
- Click 'Next'
- Click 'Next'
The data that you backed up during the backup process will be restored on the desktop screen. Hope this helps. Do reply if you have any further questions. I would be glad to assist.

Hi hdtservices,
Could you provide me more information in regards to the issue that you are facing? It will help in finding a resolution.
- Did the system backup complete itself in one go or was there any interruption?
- Did the progress bar reach 100% and confirmed about the successful completion of 'Emergency Backup'?
- If yes, what was the approximate time taken by the system to backup the files?
- What type of data files did you back up (Photos, Audio, Videos, Documents, Email/Calender/Contacts/Folders and Financial Data)
- What was the approximate size of data (KB/MB/GB) that was backed up?
- Have you tried using the 'Hard Drive Image' to restore the computer back to factory defaults in the past?
You may also try to run the executable file in the emergency folder as an administrator. Try the steps mentioned below:

- Right click the 'Executable file' (Refer to the image below)
- Click 'Run as an administrator'
- Click 'Yes' if the 'User Access Control' prompt appears
- Follow through with the restoration process and check if that works
It is possible that the 'System Backup or Factory Image' on the Hard Drive's recovery partition is missing or corrupt. I would like to know if you created the recovery DVDs or recovery USB drive from the 'Datasafe Local' application when you first purchased it? Do reply with the results. I would be glad to assist.

OK, This is the situation.
We run a small PC repair shop,. A customer came in with is laptop having done a factory restore. The restore failed due to a faulty hard drive. There was however an emergency folder on the c:\ partition. We have replaced the hard drive and done a vanilla Win7 Install. I have no idea what the progress of the backup was as I was not present at the time. I downloaded datasafe and did an install - this seemed to work OK but does not give me the option to restore. The backup folder contains approx 8,5 GB data. I am assuming that the contents of the 'My Documents' folder was backed up.
Running the executable in the emergency folder gives the corrupt or empty message.
The customer did NOT create a set of recovery discs when he took delivery of the laptop
I ask the question again, is there a repair tool available IF the backup is actually corrupt? (I suspect it is)
Many thanks
Mick

Hi Mick,
Thank you for your quick response. Due to a bad 'Hard Drive' or a corrupt 'System Image' it is likely that the backup performed by the customer may not have successfully completed. Though the 'Emergency folder' was created, it does not imply that it is a healthy file. We do not have any repair tool to fix this issue. However, I am researching on this case. I have forwarded the details to the concerned team to look for any alternate options (if available).
It may take 2 to 3 business days. I will keep you posted. Your patience appreciated.

Hi Mick,
Thank you for your patience. I am providing you with the 'Datasafe Local Backup Recovery Utility'. Try to recovery the data from the 'Emergency Folder'. However, we will not be able to recover any data if the backup itself was corrupt. Please follow the steps as mentioned below:
1. Click on this link http://bit.ly/Ub0eyG

2. Click 'Run'
3. The file will download
4. Click 'Run'
5. Answer 'Yes' or 'Allow' if prompted (User Access Control prompt)
6. Answer 'Yes' or 'Allow' if you get an anti-virus security prompt
7. Type in the password – 'recovermyfiles' (without quotations) and click on 'OK'
- The Application will start
8. Open the application, and browse to your backup
9. Use 'Browse' to locate the first .exe file in the backup set if it is available
- If the exe file is not listed proceed to the next step:
10. Change this to « all files « if the backup executable is missing, and then point to the first available piece of the backup set
11. Create a folder named Restored Files in the root of your C or other drive that has enough space available to restore your files to, and browse to that folder. This will be where your files will be restored to. Make sure you have enough hard disk space to hold the restored files
12. Enter a password if you had password protected your backup
13. You will see the tool pickup all of the pieces of the backup
14. You will see the progress as files are restored
15. When it is finished, you will see Recovery Complete
- It will also advise you of any missing pieces of the backup set or corrupted files within the backup that could not be recovered
Hope this helps. Do reply if you have any further questions. I would be glad to assist.
