Defragmenting

Having recently bought a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop (250GB) I had to do a system restore to factory settings following a conflict. This has all gone OK, however I then decided to complete the process by carrying out a defragmentation of the C drive. It is running Vista and so far I have only loaded 1GB of photos.  The defrag has now been running for over 4 hours !! How long should a defrag of 250GB take ? If it continues to just carry on running how long before I have to conclude there is a problem ?

Defragmenting is automatic in Vista and is certainly not needed after a factory restore. I would stop the defrag, wait for it to clean up, reboot.
