Dell Inspiron 15 7000(7537) WiFi issue

Hi,

I purchased  the dell inspiron 7000 laptop last week. It has some issues with wifi connectivity.. Though it gets connected, we can see the signal bar fluctuating randomly and the speed of the interent connection is very slow. I am using the same connection for my phone and also checked it with other laptops and the wifi connection seems to have no problem. The download speed on the laptop shows 0.50mbps, while the download speed on another laptop connected to the same connection at the same time and spot shows 6.8mbps.

I have reported the issue the very next day of my purchase, so far I have not obtained any help from the dell customer support. Finally two days back I got a mail stating that there will be a service engineer visiting me in 2-3 working days. But ironically today I get a call form the customer support and they said the person wont be coming for the next week or so as they do not have the parts available.

Why would you want to change the part  of a brand new laptop which is not even two weeks old????Is this a known issue for this model??

This seems to be a common theme. Tech Support don't seem to be aware that the Inspiron 15 7000 is being marketed on their web site as being dual-band but is being sold and shipped with a single-band card.

I can't say I had the same problems some people were having with the WLAN card at 2.4 GHz but an engineer did swap the card yesterday for the Dual Band version (Dual-Band Wireless-N 7260 agn) so at least now it gives me the opportunity to connect at 5GHz which I have to say is impressive when you've got a strong signal.

The web site should now be changed to remove the Dual-Band wording for the Wireless-N 7260 bgn, or they should ship with a Dual-Band card.

Running now with the 16.6.0 driver and all seems ok.

An engineer yesterday replaced my Wireless-N 7260 bgn card with the Dual-Band Wireless-N 7260 agn card.

I installed the Intel Proset tools/driver version 16.6.0 and all seems to be working without problems.

As I said, I didn't have the severe problems some people seemed to have had connecting on the standard 2.4 GHz band, but I do now have the opportunity to connect on the 5GHz band when I've got a good signal ... and this has proved to give a faster connection.

Dell marketing should now just make sure the web site is in line with what's being shipped.

Do you also have a good connection when you are let's say 40 feet away from the router?

because mine works only (acceptable) fine whn i sit next to the router. If i go 40feet further my downloadspeed drop till 1 mbps max.

I'm using the latest version I could find for Windows 8.1 64bit, which was 16.6.0.

I'm not convinced the tools are strictly necessary, it may be worth trying connectivity by letting Windows manage the wifi connections. Under the Advanced menu of the Proset Connection Utility.

I have no such problem 40 feet away.

Just for information, I'm using a BT Home Hub 5 (Dual band capable) wireless router.

i am actually planning to replace the card with the Intel 7260 AC instead of this one but I wanna make sure if it would improve things before I buy that card.

Ok I don't know if this might work for everyone but it did improve things for me this time, I repeat it "improved" things but still WiFi performance is not amazing or anything. So I uninstalled the intel pro set software itself and uninstalled the driver. Then I downloaded the latest driver from Intels website and installed it. NowI am getting 2.6-2.7 mbps of my 3mbps connection about 25-30 ft away

2.7 mbps. i am sure your old laptop will get ten times better results. my older devices get 30mbps on the attic of my house. My 753.7 gets in the best cae 2..5mbps nd trust me you can't do anything then. I can't even watch a yotube video on hd mode. Pff i am getting a replacement laptop but i a thinking about selling it to someone else because it's such a bad laptop. my old 7537 is getting really hot by the way. after 3 minutes surfing on the internet (nt yutube or things like that) the fan starts booting up every 30 seconds and my laptop feels very hot. + the hissing sound of the earplug jack is twice a bad since the tech replaced the lcd screen.

Hey I am glad I don't have problems u stated above. i think because of the thick aluminium body of his laptop needs a stronger Ac card or something. I am debating between the Atheros Dw1901 or the Intel 7260 Ac. Having the 5ghz band will and should significantly improve things. I have a 2007 dual band Intel 5100 agn on my gateway fx series laptop this gives me around 15-20 mbps. I try not to use dell's tech services. First of all I am from upstate new york and there is no dell store or any dell establishment within like 100 miles, so I don't even know if they will send a tech guy at my place. I try to check  the laptop the first day I get it in every way i can and If there are major problems I sent it back. but if I have minor problems like the wifi in this case,so I was like ill try troubleshooting it myself.  its not like it doesn't work but its Substitute character removed as per TOU>, everything else works flawless and I love this laptop

the 20mbps am getting is on my old gateway laptop which is a dual band compare ot the single band on the 7537 but even I am looking for a card myself. Actually i think i should put the atheros Dw1901 and get out of this Intel [Profanity removed per TOU] forever.

hi,

glad you still have around 20mbps so you can still use your laptop. How far are you from the router to get these speeds? i am asking this to see which card i should buy for my replacement dell because i suspect the issue will still be there on my new laptop so i want to make sure i buy a card which is useable for me.

kind regards

I could not wait any longer for Dell to sort out this problem so after returning my 7537, I went ahead and bought an Asus Zenbook.

I tested two models, the first with the same 7260 card as in the Dell and the second with the 7260AC version.

Wifi was excellent using both cards achieving nearly full speeds in adjoining rooms where the 7537 would barely work . I don't have a 5ghz router so in both instances it was using 2.4Ghz.

My conclusion is that there is nothing wrong with the Intel products it's just the way that Dell has implemented them. It really is a shame, the 7000 series had such good potential and Dell continue to treat their customers like fools.

I'm have the same computer with same issue.

Who did you speak to, customer care, or tech support?

I've spoken to tech support twice.  The first time, they told me that the Inspiron 15 7000 does not support dual band wifi because the laptop doens't have dual antenna.    Obviously this is incorrect.   The second time I spoke to tech support about the issue, they told me I needed to call customer care.  I haven't called them yet.
