Dell Inspiron 15r SE Switching graphics cards

As I understood, I should manually setup each programm to work with Intel HD 4000 or Radeon HD 7730. But I'm not sure is the ATI card working, and this getting me nervous. Can I just switch off INTEL HD and make RAdeon do all the job, and when I need power saving switch off the Radeon. Sorry for bad English...

I think, that games like Portal 2, LFD2 and Team Fortress 2 already used Radeon HD(cause I've played yhem on full graphics). Some problems are with COD 4 MW3 cause more than 45 fps it doesn't make(( but now it makes them with better graphics)). This method helps, but it's not a solution.

I whant to FULLY CONTROLL which card i'm using and whant it to work as well as it can.

i m glad it helped you...but for full control you gotta wait for an official driver release to fix it...

Okay. Let's summarize problems:

1)Some problems with video card(AMD) perfomance. -solution: new drivers

2)Imposibles of manual changing video cards. -solution: Rakesh trying to help us and hope this option will be in new drivers.

3)I'm being disturbed by lots of options for battery saving. Cause when I need to work from battery for a long time I need to change Windows options, Dell Battery options, ATI options and Intel. that sucks...

4) Also Rakesh, fraps shows only 60-65 fps max in all games even on low settings(and on high too :)) And from battery 30-35. Is it a bug, or a feature?))

Hello friends.

I have been looking at this thread for a few days now. I decided to join and post my problem here like you guys. As weird as it may sound, I must say I felt quite relieved when I found out that other people have the same problem as me. It is too difficult to realize that you’ve spent so much money (trust me, in Greece where I live, 800€ is a lot of money nowadays) only to realize that you are getting the processor’s graphics card. I bought Inspiron 15R SE 7520 mainly for watching movies and playing Skyrim. Although I have been able to do the first, Skyrim has the worst graphics ever (when it doesn’t crash). I have tried everything suggested in every kind of forum. Skyrim Launcher only detects Intel 4000 as my Laptop’s graphics card. So, here we are waiting.

I am sorry to post in a row, I do not wish to spam, but I am afraid that trying to find a solution to our problem would be a miracle. I spent two months trying to make the best choice of a laptop and it seems as I am going to be spending the same time to make it work. I read in similar threads that 7730M kicks in when playing games like Skyrim, even if the launcher options show Intel 4000 as the only graphics card. But even if we assume that this is true, the thing is that game settings which are set according to the default GPU and as a result I get low settings instead the medium-high I have been reading in some reviews. I tried to configure game settings via CCC but no result again. I am desperate.

Hi wiimine,

We have received an update from our engineering team.

In Dell Inspiron 15R SE (7520) you will not be able to know which GPU is active using the ‘Catalyst Control Center’.  This feature has not been provided by AMD.

Dell Inspiron 15R SE (7520) with AMD graphics are based on the PX5.0 design , it is a Muxless hardware design.
It supports dynamic switchable graphic function only. This means you will not be able to turn ON only one GPU on your computer. Under the dynamic mode, the user does not directly control which graphics device is active. The render-graphics device is determined by application profile settings.

• Displays are always exposed to the OS through integrated graphics.
• Aero desktop always runs on integrated graphics.
• 3D, OpenGL, and video-playback applications run on the fGPU/iGPU or dGPU depending on the application profile.
• If an application does not have a profile, the application runs on the default rendering GPU.
• The end-user can edit application profiles.
• When the last application rendering on the dGPU ends, the dGPU is fully powered off on PX5.0 designs or "put into BACO mode on PX4.0 designs". (Unfortunately, there is no BACO design on Inspiron 7520)

In the PX4.0 design, it was possible to enable only the integrated or discrete graphics, however the PX5.0 design does not allow the same.

Please reply us for any queries.

Is there a static mode?

and how do I choose the default GPU ? ("• If an application does not have a profile, the application runs on the default rendering GPU.")

Hi mikemph

Well many of us are stuck with this for more than a month now, and we are getting almost no input from dell, a/c to dell this issue has been escalated to engineering for two times (i think) with same answer as posted above by  DELL-Ravi Ch, but they are either denying or ignoring the actual issue related to bsod and driver crashes, some of us are also having bsod with HDMI output (i have personally not tested this), please search the forums to find many related threads, a major thread is this: en.community.dell.com/.../19453219.aspx

Now you can judge if u need to join us or not.... If i were you i would choose otherwise.
