Dell Inspiron 15r SE Switching graphics cards

As I understood, I should manually setup each programm to work with Intel HD 4000 or Radeon HD 7730. But I'm not sure is the ATI card working, and this getting me nervous. Can I just switch off INTEL HD and make RAdeon do all the job, and when I need power saving switch off the Radeon. Sorry for bad English...

Before starting, BUMP THIS THREAD!

My two cents:

1. I'm also having problems with the GPU-Z issue. In my case, it just hangs completely. I left it for like 10 minutes but the blasted thing wouldn't work so I forced a hard shut down with the power button.

2. en.community.dell.com/.../20302720.aspx I made this thread, which was sort of a heads up. I had a non-steam version of counter-strike source which wouldn't work on DX9 mode, but would on DX 8.1. My old-as-hell Core 2 Duo laptop with an awful nVidia 9200m GS chip played it flawlessly. What I didn't mention in this thread was that after installing a newer non-steam version, I got full DX 9.0 support with all the bells and whistles, hurray.

3. I've recently been having issues with CCC. AMD, I wasn't expecting this crap from you when you took over ATI. Had this been the case, I'd rather have ATI not be taken over by you dolts. TERA is an MMORPG game that went freemium recently. Because it was pay to play prior to its current state, it's no joke when I say the graphics are wicked. CCC always forgets about TERA. I installed ArcSoft's Total Media Theatre version 3, and it had the same issue. To make things worse, a MEDIA program wouldn't play Blu-rays or DVDs, it would just BSOD naming one of the driver's DLLs as the cause. Great. I installed version 6 but it wouldn't utilize DXVA acceleration. Ouch. Downgraded to version 5 and now it's working solid.

4. Perhaps related to point one, and the referential post, I play another free-to-play MMORPG, Perfect World International (PWI). I've done all I can including editing the INI files to include the correct graphics adapter with the GUID, DEV\VEN and PID numbers, and even setting those INIs to read-only so the damn HD 4000 isn't selected. The damn thing still uses the HD 4000.

5. This laptop cost me 76,500 PKR. It isn't easy living in Pakistan, providing for the household, and saving up that kind of money where people get shot, bombed, and robbed daily and weekly. Two years after saving for a great system and I get this. If this doesn't constitute legal grounds for a lawsuit, I don't know what does qualify then. Take it from the nice people on the community, Dell. Fix this issue. Get AMD in on it. Tell us about the progress. Beta drivers are welcome too. PX 5.0 is a step backwards to all of us (remember Vista everyone?). We wanted a casual gaming machine, ergo the 7520. Graphics are a must. My buddy with his 7470 has the option to always use his Radeon chip. His system's specs are inferior in every way and form. And he can use his graphics 100% of the time, while I can't. Justify that to me, Dell. Otherwise, recall your ridiculed slogan of the past (Dude, you're getting a Dell!.... Dude, you're going to Hell!)

With Love,

Blitz

Got the problems solved with the Inspiron 3721.

I did a fresh Windows 8 Install (Dell Recovery cd) and only installed the latest drivers from the Dell Support page.

Now I can assign specific programs (like a Game or Windows Media Player) to a specific card by using the
Performance options that came available after I installed the Catalyst software and AMD Graphics Driver.

You CAN test what graphics card is being used by setting extreme adjustments at one of the graphics card settings.
If you change the settings from the AMD to extreme brightness and contrast and add the software in the list with
High Performance selected, you will see the extreme changes back into the movie or game.

Ahh well as Dell Phone Support in the Netherlands told me: I'm not qualified.....so please don't listen to me,

and don't try this at home.....

UPDATE :  Laptop runs on a aluminum stand on side of desk, 2 external 1080p monitors, internal display shuts off its self. laptop runs silently then the fans roar, for a good few minutes at a time.

So i unplug both screens, and the fans are a bit quiter, however are now constantly running.

THE DETAILS :

With monitors on:  all temps 4 cores and 2 gpus show around 46-48 degree C. fan speed 35%

Without monitors : all 4 core temps 50 degrees C, and the 2 gpus show 0 degrees C fan speed 20% but seems to constantly run.

That is the case with and without power-supply.

History of laptop and GPU

Win 7 to Win 8 upgrade Graphics cards failure many attempts of drivers fro AMD and Intel and Dell pages, in the end it all worked fine.

Win 8 to 8.1 same issue, AMD card failure and Catalyst control centre (CCC) was failing. Did a clean install, disabled Win update, and installed standalone AMD driver no CCC.

Photoshop, GPU-Z, Argus Software, SPEEDFAN, all recognize both cards with drivers being fine!

I downloaded CCC clicked custom set up, only software it could recommend was Update manager, it seems CCC is unsupported by Win 8.1.

Seems laptop may need to come apart for a clean as i cant work with this noise!
