Dell Inspiron R17 SE - can'T switch Switchable Graphics

Hi,

I recently got a Dell Inspiron R17 SE (7720). Originally it came with Windows 8 but since I don't like it that much, I installed Windows 7. I installed all the drivers from the Dell Support website. Now I have one issue: I can't seem to find the way to switch between the integrated Intel 4000 HD and the Nvidia 650M graphics cards. The laptop is running all the time on the Intel card (even when playing 3D games). In Control Panel I can see both cards. If I right-click on the desktop, I don't see anything about switchable graphics. Also, when I try to start the Nvidia Control Panel I get an error message that none of the displays is using the Nvidia GPU and thus the display settings are not available.

Can anyone tell me how to switch to the Nvidia card? Also, when I was installing the Intel 4000 HD drivers, right at the end of the process I got an error message but then the tool said "Installation successful". The error, if I remember correctly, was about not being able to create some process.

Thank you for your help,

Mircea

OK, what I did (and solved the issue) was to simply remove the drivers for both the Intel and the nVidia cards (works best in safe mode) and then reinstall them. This time the Intel driver got installed correctly and after installing the nVidia I could access the settings.

The Optimus control panel is used to set up the video chip on a per-application basis.  You should see it in the system control panel.

Hi,

I do see the Nvidia Icon but when I click on it I get the error message that no display is using the Nvidia GPU:

Any ideas?
