Dell touchpad options not available

Hi, there is no "dell touchpad" tab in my mouse settings which I could use to enable/disable the touchpad in various ways. I installed the driver below which was given to me on this forum, I'm running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit.

Thanks

I don't know what your computer model number is.  That Synaptics Synaptics TouchPad driver is compatible with the following.

That driver is good for your operating system.

Systems
Studio Laptop 1558
Studio Laptop 1569
Studio Laptop Studio 1555
Studio Laptop Studio 1557
Studio XPS Laptop 1340
Studio XPS Laptop 16
Studio XPS Laptop Studio XPS 1645
Studio XPS Laptop Studio XPS 1647

Operating Systems
Windows 7 32-bit
Windows 7 64-bit
Windows Vista 32-bit
Windows Vista 64-bit

Hi Bay Wolf. I've installed the above mentioned driver that the OP gave. I have a Studio 1557 laptop. In Device Manager, under Mice and other pointing devices I have only 2 lines: the PS/2 mouse and my wireless mouse. There is no Touchpad. How can I get it there? Hope you can help, thanks, Lisa

You will not find it in the Device Manager.

There are two ways that you can proceed to set the touchpad parameters.

  1. If the touchpad icon is showing in the taskbar, you can double ciick on it and that shouid start up the touchpad software.
  2. Go into the Control Panel and look for either "Dell Touchpad" or  the "Mouse" icon.  Using this method, you may have to click on another link within the mouse properties to get to the touchpad settings.

Hi Bay Wolf. I appreciate your response too but that IS my problem. I have no touchpad icon on the taskbar nor in Control Panel. Nor a touchpad tab in the Mouse section of Control Panel. When I click on Start and search for "touchpad", nothing pops up. It's as if the touchpad settings have been erased from my laptop and I'd so love to have them back. Have you ever heard of this?
