Dell XPS 13 9350 Airplane mode sleep issues

This happens randomly.  I can't seem to reproduce it on call.  Basically I close the lid to put it to sleep but the computer doesn't go to sleep. Airplane mode just turns on but the laptop stays on.

Hello all. Back about two months ago I had the same issue. I would close the lid, it would look like it went to sleep, but wake back up within seconds. Or if I hit the power button(top right on keybd) it would turn off, then within a few seconds turn on again.

If I completely shutdown the laptop, start it back up and try to put to sleep it then worked. Worked OK until the next time it started doing it again. Random amount of time, couple of days sometimes the same day. Once I restarted the laptop and tested sleep, then it worked fine again. Until the next time which was usually when it was in my backpack and found hours later, toasty hot and battery drained.

I looked at forums, saw other people with the same issues and tried a variety of solutions.

I tried the power settings described in the posts on this thread, with no success. Tried all the BIOS and driver updates. Still no luck.

Then, I'm almost 100% sure this fixed my issue was to follow the June 19 post from LylaBerenice in thread:

http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19963459

The step of automatic maintenance and allow "automatic maintenance to wake up my computer" which is now disabled on my XPS 13 9350 and since that time have never had a problem with going into sleep mode.

I'm certain my laptop was already set to disabled (no check mark) and I enabled it, exited, then went in and disabled it and has been that way ever since.

Hopefully this may help you guys as well. Post on this thread if it does

Had you run powercfg /waketimers to see if anything was scheduled first?

This fix has worked well for me for a week:

Turn off hibernate. You can easily google and figure out how to do this. Dell Support in Israel advised me that sometimes with SSDs, the hibernate option doesn't play nice. Additionally, I read on Reddit that perhaps what was happening was that after a certain time of the computer being asleep, the machine attempted to put itself into Hibernate mode and thus woke itself up and for some reason never went back to sleep afterwards. Thus turn of hibernate.

Then go through each of your power options/plans and go to advance settings within each and disable all wake timers, even important ones, even when plugged in.

So far my computer has not come out of sleep mode on its own.

Does DELL at all pan on resolving this issue?

I would like to hear from them regarding this. Terrible!! I paid for a premium laptop and get something sub-par and potentially a FIRE HAZARD!!!

DELL - I am truly disappointed in you.

Dear admins:

I have been facing the same issue on my laptop and it has been so frustrating to find the battery drained after every lid close (over night). I followed your powercfg instruction and the following result displayed:

DISPLAY:

None.

SYSTEM:

[DRIVER] \FileSystem\servnet

An active remote client has recently sent requests to this machine.

AWAYMODE:

None.

EXECUTION:

None.

PERFBOOST:

None.

Now you gotta help me resolve the issue or tell me where to take my laptop for service in Saskatoon Canada, its still under warranty. Thanks

I have this issue with my Dell XPS 13 as well! My laptop is brand new and I can't believe it is acting up like this! Another issue I have it my laptop not being able to connect to any wifi networks (sometimes turning it off and on will work but sometimes it does not work). I am very upset at this as I thought I was buying a top end product in the market!

welcome to my nightmare. my recommendation is to get rid of your dell and buy a Lenovo. Dell has not rectified this problem and I've been dealing with it for over 9 months! No refunds offered. No repair plan. Left me hanging and I work for a large multinational company that buys, or used to buy, Dell business products. No more. Good luck.

Alright, so I fixed the issue where my PC doesn't turn off, or sleep and here's how:

1. Confirm you have the problem by Windows + X -> Command Prompt (Admin) -> type in "powercfg -requests"

2. You will probably see Legacy Kernal Caller and \FileSystem\srvnet (even if you don't have both there's no reason not to just enter the commands that fix it before you have the problem anyway).

3. Use these three commands on the cmd line:

"powercfg -requestsoverride DRIVER "\FileSystem\srvnet" System Awaymode"

"powercfg -requestsoverride DRIVER "srvnet" System Awaymode"

"powercfg -requestsoverride DRIVER "Legacy Kernal Caller" System Awaymode"

4. Confirm that this worked by using the command "powercfg -requestsoverride" and you should see the three things.

Try it out by sleeping and restarting if you want - these should hold through restarts. Hope it helps you guys!

Is there anyone who faced the problem with going to the airplane mode instead of hibernation? Check if your msconfig.exe has a boot config. Mine didn't have it and that was the cause of the problem (see the screenshot).
