Dell XPS 13 9350 Airplane mode sleep issues

This happens randomly.  I can't seem to reproduce it on call.  Basically I close the lid to put it to sleep but the computer doesn't go to sleep. Airplane mode just turns on but the laptop stays on.

Hi Viper2ko,

Thanks for writing to us.

When did the issue start?

Please update the BIOS and video drivers, also check the advanced power option settings ensure nothing is hindering the sleep mode from working.

Also do let us know what windows the system is running on, do PM us the system tag# by clicking on my name in blue and select send a private message .

Meanwhile you can go through the below steps to check more on the issue

Open the Start menu and then enter cmd into the search box. Hit enter and the command prompt window should open for you. If not, click it in the search result list.

Note: it is possible that you will need administrative privileges to complete the next part successfully. If you are having trouble, you can attempt to run cmd as Administrator. To do this, search for cmd again, and then right-click it and select Run as administrator.

Now that you have the command prompt window open, enter the following at the command prompt:

powercfg -requests

There is a space after powercfg

Hit enter .

If any process or device is preventing your system from going into sleep mode, information about it will be displayed here. The program will attempt to give you precise information on the disturbance

Though we can always rely  on this method, but good to give it a try.

Regards

For sure one of the programs is stopping the system from sleep which is hard to find out.

  1. Select the “Start” button, then select “Settings“.
  2. Select “System“.
  3. Select “Power & sleep“.
  4. Ensure the “Sleep” setting is set to a desired value.
  5. Have a look under “Additional power settings“.
  6. Select “Change Plan Settings” next to the option that you have selected.
  7. Change power plan setting link
  8. Select “Change advanced power settings“.
  9. Change advanced power settings
  10. On the “Power Options” screen, you want to expand each setting and ensure that they allow the computer to go to sleep mode. In many cases, the setting under “Multimedia settings” > “When sharing media” will be set to “Prevent idling to sleep“. So have to set everything to "Allow the computer to sleep“.

Let us know how it goes.

Regards

Can't confirm yet, but I think it only happens when firefox is open.  I will continue to try this week and get more confirmation

Hi nice to hear from you.
The last we can think of is to reinstall the windows afresh, but before proceeding with that, please let us know if the issue was there from day one or if it started lately.
If it started recently then please try a system restore or if you remember changing/updating any software , could be windows update as well, uninstall them.

Post the restore if still the same, windows installation afresh is what we can do next.

We have seen many windows 10 users facing sleep related issues most of which are due to software .

Hi, this same exact thing happened to me a few times. The first couple of times that my computer did not sleep, but went into airplane mode and stayed on instead, I noticed only when I took it out of my bag and it was hot and on.
Just now, I came back after closing my laptop and noticed it was still running on the desk, airplane mode on.

The only sure way around the issue for me now is setting the power options/actions to hibernate the laptop instead of sleep. What a shame....

Updated BIOS and drivers to all the latest releases.

Another case of an 9350 randomly going into airplane mode. I am not even sure if the case has been closed every time, but it is possible. Current BIOS, power plan settings seem OK.

I'm having the same issue as well.  Happens about 50% of the time when coming out of sleep.  It's very annoying.  I really hope I can find a fix soon.

Same issue here.  I got my new XPS 13 just yesterday and immediately proceeded to get all the latest updates.

I noticed that the computer goes to sleep for 3-5 seconds then wakes again.  After the 2nd time I decided to try putting the laptop to sleep by hitting Power > Sleep in windows.  The computer went to sleep and woke right back up.  I rebooted and power cycled then the computer and tested again.  The computer went to sleep successfully and I cannot repeat the issue.

The only app I had open at the time was Chrome.

Issue happened again.  I put the laptop to sleep last night with >90% battery and this morning the battery was drained.

I connected the power adapter then ran the powercfg -requests command and I get this:

DISPLAY:
None.

SYSTEM:
None.

AWAYMODE:
None.

EXECUTION:
None.

PERFBOOST:

[DRIVER] Legacy Kernel Caller
