That is an option that you can turn off if it bothers you.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Mouse

On my notebook, that option is located on the "Pointers Options" tab.  Uncheck "Hide pointer while typing".

It should now be visible all the time.

Great idea but the box was not checked.

As I am typing, the cursor goes away and the typing stops at the same time.  It is very annoying because each time it does that, I have to use the mouse to put the cursor back where the typing stopped.

I have a new Dell Latitude D420 and I am getting the same problem. I often look up to find that the last few seconds of typing have been 'lost'.

I cannot find any references to this problem on the Microsoft support site either. What do we do next?

My warranty with Dell has expired.  I don't feel like sending them money for what must be an easy fix...if I only knew the fix.

Since you have a new laptop, is your warranty still in effect?  I would try that angle.
