disk drive

Question

Hi Brought a laptop Inspiron 7220, year ago, will bells and whistles.  Yes, its 15 days past warranty date and it has tanked big time. Called tech support, of course, they can not help me with out giving them more money, 'theres nothing more they can do to help me'.  Anyway, I get the BSOD when booting, actually after i put in my password in. Tech support has mailed me the installation disk (Win 8) to reinstall the OS. Did a 'analyze system' and no errors were found. I inserted the installation disk and it booted to the CD and now it can't find the storage device to install the OS! Hard drive is gone now !!.  C'mon Dell, that labtop cost me around 2500.00 and now a year later its tanked?? So, now I'm ordering a new hard drive for it. My question is 'will it asked for a product key?' or will it read it  from my Bios ? Will Dell give another product key for new hardware if I ask?

If the system shipped with Windows 8, the product key is embedded into the system board.
