Display Problems -Screen keeps blacking out
Hi-
I have a Latitude C640, running Windows XP pro. The screen will periodically go black, but not completely. I can still see very faint outlines of the windows I was using. The screen will come back if I close the computer and let it go to sleep and then reopen. This used to happen only when the computer seemed to overheat and the fan was going constantly but now seems to happen whenever (quite frequently). Any ideas? Is this fixable or is it time to call it quits?
Thanks.

Hi,
It sounds like the backlight is on the way out. It can be replaced by a specialist repair shop. Try to set the brightness as low as you can, and see if it stays on.

Generally how much does it cost to replace a backlight?
Thanks, Kari

Hi,
I think it is around $100, worth doing as it has a limited life. If you replace the whole LCD with a 2nd hand one, it may be weeks away from failure. A new one will be several hundred dollers.
