Docking Station Hard Drive

Is it possible to add either a Serial ATA or ATA card to a PCI slot in my docking station? I was thinking I can add an internal drive. Would this work? If so, would the laptop see it as a normal drive giving me the same benefits of a 7200rpm drive?

I have a Lattitude C810 laptop with a docking station.
