docking station power problem

I'm trying to dock my Inspiron 600m for the first time.  I plug the docking station in, and get the amber power light, no problem.  But when I dock the computer and turn it on, I get this message:  "Your system is docked, but the AC Power Adapter type cannot be determined.  Either undock or insert an appropriate adapter."  I'm using a PA-10 AC adapter.

Is something broken, or do I need to do something differently?  Thanks!

monnigsj,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

You should have two AC adapters, one that came with the system, and one that came with the Port Replicator.  Please make sure that you try both on the Port Replicator, when docked.  Please also try both on the system and see if you get the same error message with either.  Also, please check to see if they are both the same.

Please make sure that you are running the latest BIOS for your system, and restore the defaults by hitting Alt+F after entering setup.

Rollie,

I am having the identical problem. My 600m is only 1 week old and came straight from Dell, so I believe I have the latest BIOS.

The port replicator on the other hand is a D/APR Model #PR01X which was advertised on Ebay as 600m compatible. Sure enough it docks fine, but when I plugged into the PA-10 a/c adapter that came with the docking station, I receive the error "The computer cannot determine the identity of the a/c adapter. Strike F1 to shutdown."

If I try to power the docking station with the PA-12 that came with my 600m, then the error is something like "The a/c adapter is supplying insufficient power. Please plug in the correct a/c adapter. Strike f1 to shutdown."

BTW, both power supplies seem to be accepted directly by my 600m. However, I only run it on the PA-12 that came with it because the output of the PA-10 is a little higher.

Have I bought an incompatible APR?? Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks for any help you can give.....TomTr
