E Port Plus Display Port Daisy Chain

I have a dell precision M4800 with an e port plus 2 docking port (model PRO2x). According to everything I can find  online, it supports display port 1.2 specifically mentioning the ability to daisy chain monitors.

However, when I attempt to daisy chain a couple dell monitors the NVidia control panel says that the monitors are connected through a low bandwidth or unsupported cable. If I connect the first monitor to the laptop itself instead of the dock it works just fine. No changes other than where the first monitor is plugged in.

Do I need to update some firmware or chipset drivers or something?

Thanks!

The DPN is JKJ9X A00.

I updated the graphics drivers about a month ago, though a new version has been posted since then. I also think that I updated the chipset drivers, but I don't remember. I definitely haven't updated the bios though. When I was in high school I bricked a motherboard trying to update a bios and I've been perhaps overly cautious of such things since then.

When I get a chance I'll try making sure those are all updated, but it may take a week or two. Its a work computer and its been pretty busy lately.

Thanks again for the help! It is much appreciated.

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for the post! In order to daisy chain monitors through a Dell E-Port the USB 3.0 revision of the docking hardware would be required. See details Here.

For further instructions on setting up a daisy chained monitor configuration on the M4800, see our guide below.

As far as I can tell, this is the USB 3.0 version. At the very least it has 2 blue usb ports with the ss logo on the back. Is there something I'm missing that would indicate otherwise?

I'll double check bios settings, since they were mentioned in the second article you suggested, but based on what I've tried I will be VERY surprised if they're wrong.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks a ton!

Hey Danny,

Certainly sounds like a USB 3.0 dock. If you provide the Dell part number or private message me the PPID serial code I can double check for you.

Making sure the systems BIOS / Video and chipset drivers are up to date would be a good step. The Dell Command | Update Application can be used to update these components automatically.

Could you also confirm the AC adapter being used with the dock?

Thanks,
