E6410 - Can't install Bios update A10 from Windows

On a Latitude E6410, I am trying to update my bios from A07 to A10 (which was released last month). I downloaded the file and ran it but the installer doesn't start. I see a progress bar for less than a second, but that's it.

Is there any log that could take a look at to see what is going? I'd really like to update my bios.

Thanks!

I have the same issue.

I see that A09 needs to be install first but when I try A09 it does the same as described above by Trudeo.

I tried running it from a bootable DOS disk and it behaves the same. No errors, no messages, nothing.

Any ideas?

Trouble with bios file downloads is usually caused by using the Download Manager. Skip the download manager and download the file directly. You might have to uninstall the manager by deleting all the related cookies and rebooting.

Warning-- if you don't have a good reason to update the bios, don't do it. Check the Compatibility info on the download page to see if the update applies to you. Bios not installing could be a red flag that your computer doesn't need it.

I already tried that many times (and with multiple browsers), but no chance. It still doesn't work.

Here is asolution that worked for me:

This is the method I used to update BIOS on my E6510

1. Install UNetbootin from synaptic
2. Run it and create a FreeDOS USB key.
3. Copy the exe BIOS update file to the USB key from inside ubuntu.
4. Reboot into BIOS setup and change the boot order to boot from USB
5. Boot into a live freedos session.
* The USB key will offer to install freedos on your hard disk. DONT - that is ubuntucide!
* Don't use himem or or that other memory thingywhatsit - just straight freedos
6. C:
7. dir
8. run the update

Good Luck

This is from a post at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1634874 one note is that when the UNetbootin asks for which OS to boot into (off Mem Stick) select fdos.

I have tried the DOS boot from USB method.

Result is the same. I see a progress bar and then it exits with no errors or any message.

Is there some hidden option (in the BIOS or in the system itself like a jumper)  that may prevent the update from executing?

I have the same problem, i think that problem is a question for corrupted executable.

Can someone from Dell technical support propose a solution to this? This issue seems to be generalized...

in the same boat but have a littel different issue.

now appears that the E6410 A09 bios has been removed from the download site.  I'm stuck at A03 and cant apply a10 bios until i get the A09 installed.

Cant seem to find that now ----  Anyone from Dell?

When you go to the BIOS update page for your system, it shows the latest released version.
If you scroll down the page you will see "Other versions".  There you can find all of the older released versions of your BIOS.

Same issue with my e6410 and the only BIOS vers. files I see on the download page are A02, A10, and A11. There is not "Other Versions" section. Mike

for the E6410 you need to change the FTP line above to reflect this since this one is for a 6510.  I changed it and downloaded the e6410 A09 BIOS firmware, ran it, it took awhile and got me a little nervous because of the long delay when it was flashing but it finally finished. I was able to flash my 6410's BIOS with A10 & A11 after this and those went very fast.

The BIOS on my E6410 will not allow an update to any version higher than A09 until you first apply A09.  I still do not see the "other versions" section after selecting the A10 version, tried the A11 link too.
