The hard drive has indeed failed and needs to be replaced. Your system will have a digital entitlement for Windows 10 - you can download an ISO and write the file to a flash drive or DVD to use it for reinstalling the operating system onto a new hard drive.
The ISO that can be downloaded from Microsofts website? So it's a simple case of transferring the downloaded file to a memory stick and installing from that?

Yes. Be sure you use the same version of 10 (10 or 10 Pro) that's on the system already.

Does it matter what file system the memory stick is? Eg ntfs fat32 etc

I suppse it will need to be NTFS as the iso is slightly above 4GB?
