Fan still works after shut down (Windows 10).

Hi,

I have installed windows 10 in my Inspiron 15 3542.
When I shutdown the computer, sometimes the fan keeps running till the battery drains out.

Then I have to keep pressing power button and power off the laptop.

Previously I had Windows 8.1 and no issues at all.

Any healpful ideas guys?

This seems to be a common problem with Windows 10. The culprit is Intel's Management Engine (IME) v11.* Ever since v10.* this has been a problem. What you need to do is to install a V9 or V10 IME and the system will operate as it should as it relates to power off, sleep, and hibernate. I had the same problem and regressed driver to v10 and everything has been fine since. 2 weeks and no troubles.

If you can't find the back level drivers on the Dell site, get the Intel ME driver here. Just use the driver install, and answer that you know you are going back level on the driver.

You may also use the "Get Help Now" option at the bottom right to chat with a Dell technician right away.

i got tthe 3542 also, had the same problem, since upgrading to win 10. this fixed it for me

go to device manager, u can get there easy by right cicking on start button, the lil windows icon bottom left corner. then click on device manager. (not meaning to treat u like a novice)

scroll down in device manager to "system devices" then click on that and u should see a bunch of stuff.

go to "intel management engine interface" right click then click properties

click driver tab

then click disable

click ok

u dont need the intel management driver or what ever it does

wouldnt hurt to reboot

Don't need disable, only uninstall driver (11.x), and install driver 9.5 or 10.0.

Download IME 10.0 here downloadcenter.intel.com/.../Intel-ME-10-Management-Engine-Driver-for-Intel-NUC

this is a copy of the post i answered from some one else, had the same problem..

my problem was from the Intel Rapid Storage ,

yes Martinkit, that is exactly what happened to my laptop, the same as what u experienced with the power problem.

as i said in post

go to Control Panel

on bottom left side, click uninstall program

there are 3 programs to uninstall

Intel rapid storage (i think it will say, have to stop program first before uninstall - click yes) and think it asks to restart system, just go ahead and click yes)

intel management - something or other (cant remember the exact name, but its the only one titled like that)

intel security assist  - (also cant remember the exact name - but the only one with a name like that)

on my laptop 3542 , after uninstalling those 3 program there is only one program left made by intel and that is the graphics , obviously , u do NOT want to uninstall that

Hi Robin,

I don't see any different with driver download here www.dell.com/.../advanced.

Intel and Nvidia graphic driver, I always download from their official website:

downloadcenter.intel.com/.../Intel-Iris-Iris-Pro-and-HD-Graphics-Production-Driver-for-Windows-10-64-bit

www.nvidia.com/.../en-us

Hi,

I'm also facing same issue.

After shutdown at night, in morning battery drains to 0%. Sometimes after shutdown the fan keeps spinning.

But I'm using inspiron 7537 running win8.1u1. Drivers and windows are updated. I've disabled intel smart connect tech and intel rapid start tech in BIOS. BIOS was updated to A13 few days back.

Sometime it seems the A13 bios is causing this.
