Hi, I have ordered 1557 (i7 720QM, 4GB, 320GB 7.2K RPM ...) on 28th Sep, estimated date was 8th Oct, now changed to 15th Oct.

Has anyone received it yet? Let us know your experience.

Thanks

My laptop (ordered 28th Sept.) arrived an hour ago (just before 9.00am UK time), I won't get the chance to have a look at it until tonight when I get back from work though. I hope you all get your laptop soon too.

Can you confirm 100% that it has the eSATA port?

It was almost evident the last few weeks that the 1557 wouldnt have the eSATA port...

Anyway, I'm curious about your first impression :) Are there more differences with the 1555 (visual/technical)?

I'm getting mine by the end of this week, or early next week YAY

Well Visu, Meg …………………….what do you think? I won’t get mine for another two weeks and I’m drooling with excitement. The E-SATA connection is a relief but I’m curious about the Windows 7 upgrade. According to the upgrade instructions, you must first register the Laptop’s TAG number and possibly pay shipping in order to receive the upgrade package.  With all the fuss this caused and apparently no real explanation of the delays until recently you’d think they would try and make it up to us. After all it’s not like we just went to the local electronics store and bought whatever they had on the shelves. We took the time to custom build our systems and that makes us unique consumers. The fact we are waiting a month in some cases is proof of that. In any case I’m dying to hear about the performance. Do tell!!!

Hi Aerocash,

I was a fan of Sony Vaio, i bought FZ11Z 2.5yrs ago for £1300/- but it made me down when started giving problems with nvidia card, but otherwise its a fantastic piece, now I'm able to run that laptop by disabling the nvidia driver and using the built in vga chip.

So i was looking for a great performing laptop and 1557 really rocks with the performance. I run the sissandra benchmarks i will update the results tomorrow. It was the third best processor (920, core 2 quad 3ghz, 720).

I'm really satisfied with the build quality till now. I have installed win7 as well, performace is very good, yet to install all the applications...

Update you all the details soon.

Unfortunately I haven't had much time to use the laptop yet and I am now going to be away for a week but so far so good. I bought it to do some video editing (Pinnacle Studio 12), I have installed the software and done a small test and it appears to be fine. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the laptop doesn't get too hot. The battery does not look like it lasts very long but it's not a problem for me as I will have it plugged it most of the time.

As for Windows 7 I tried to register for it but I got a message that the service tag was not in the database yet and that it could take up to 10 days! Not being patient I emailed Support and asked them about it - I ordered the laptop on 28th Sept. after all but I haven't had a reply yet. Looking at  the forum it seems that quite a few people are experiencing the same problem. I will be quite interested to hear about people once they have upgraded to Windows 7, how easy / difficult, any issues with the drivers, etc...

Hope you get your laptop soon, hopefully it will already have Windows 7 installed.

I took delivery of my 1557 yesterday. It's a great laptop and I'm very pleased with the purchase depsite it taking 1 month to get delivered.

I do have a problem however, my audio seriously lacks bass. In fact there is no bass response whatsoever. The speakers are very clear and loud but it sounds like the subwoofer is not working at all.

I made a post over in the Audio forum regarding this (http://en.community.dell.com/forums/p/19300158/19573239.aspx#19573239) so if anyone has any ideas or has the same issue, please post a response over there so others will find it.

Many thanks,
Rob

Just got off the call with Dell Customer services , CSR confirmed that Studio 1557 is eligible for windows 7 upgrade, and they will update the tag into the system and then i will be able to successfully validate the tag

Ordered my 1557 9/26, delivery date to be 10/26.  3:20am on 10/21 I rec'd email from DELL stating delay would push delivery date to 10/30.  No big deal.  Not unusual for new product to have a production glitch or some supplier be late with a componant or subassembly.  Checking with DELL web site in the day, 9:16pm, 10/21, I see my 1557 had been shipped!  New delivery date now 10/24.  Afternoon of 10/23, my wife called to say the FedEX truck had just left our new 1557.  So with the extreamely brief delay, new laptop was delivered 3 days EARLIER than first stated when order was placed.

I have no complaints with DELL.  Had my order repeatedly had the delivery date pushed back, I woould have become concerned.  1557 is to replace an Inspiron 6000 that has served me well over the past several years but is now needing to be replaced with something more current.  1557 seemed to be the best I could find at the time.  Like the idea of backlit keyboard.  CORE i7 should run cooler than this 6000.  Will have to wait to find out as I am working on the road and likely not to be home until Thanksgiving.  May have her overnight it next week though.  Glad to hear 1557 qualifies for Windows 7 upgrade.  Sounds like MS finally has a real winner.

I think Dell is behind on all orders I ordered my laptop on 10/12 and won't have it until November 4th, but they should have told me about this possibility when I ordered.   I don't think there is much we can do, but I feel they are overselling and not delivering on promises.
