Headphone jack replacement
I believe that I have a faulty headphone jack on an Inspiron 6400. There is intermittent sound from one channel only when using the headphones, but no sound from the main speakers at all (with the headphones disconnected). (The speakers work fine when running the hardware diagnostics though.) My question is: can the headphone jack be replaced, or am I looking at a complete motherboard replacement? - Ross

the jack is not replaceable on your model. A motherboard technician might be able to do something with it but I don't know where you would get the part, possibly off a discarded MB.
