Highlighting text and keyboard problems

Hi all --

 

 I have an Inspiron 5100.  I have two problems going on with it right now.  The first is that I am unable to highlight text with either touchpad or mouse.  It takes several frustrating attempts to get it to finally highlight, only for the feature to conk out again.  The second problem is with the B key on my keyboard.  At times when I am composing a document in Word Perfect or writing an email, and type in the letter B, it will not allow me to type any further without hitting the delete key.
