How do I program shortcut keys?

My inspiron 8100 has a dell key that doubles as a play/pause button and there is a stop, ffwd, etc.  These are not working and I would like to enable them. Does anyone know how to do this?

Do you have Quickset installed? Check in msconfig (Start - Run - msconfig - Startup - Quickset). Make sure that it is checked in the list.
If it is not there, look in the drivers CD for the laptop. Put the CD in and follow the prompts. When you have the list of drivers, scroll down and locate Quickset if you can.
