I don't have a Display Adapter in Device Manager

Hi,

I absent mindedly used Driver Cleaner 2 before unstalling my Nvidia driver when I was testing out some new drivers, blah. Anyway, I don't have a Display Adapter listed in Device manager anymore and I've tried installing the laest drivers, but after setup is complete, the drivers never install. I tried installing in Safe Mode, but doesn't work. I know there must be an easy fix, but I need some help.

Thanks

15inchUXGA, NVIDIA Quadro4 700 GoGL, Without a driver installed due to what I wrote above.

And, because I used Driver Cleaner, uninstall in add\remove programs is missing, just so you know.

Shouldn't be a problem. Are you running Win2k/ XP? You should have a standard VGA driver entry under "Other devices" in device manager. Copy your driver files to e.g. c:\nvidia\xx.xx, if driver setup hasn't already done that. When you restart, you should get a "found new hardware" dialog. Click "I will search for a driver myself" or whatever it says and enter the directory where the driver files are located in the next dialog. Click "next", the install should start, finish, restart and you should be good.

Nope, I should have mentioned I don't have it in Other Devices either, it just doesn't exist.

Try a system restore to a point before using driver cleaner.

Hi sakor1,

Using System Restore is great advice. Unfortunately, I wasn't using System Restore. The problem escalated to the point where when I loaded into WIndows, my LCD was completely black. I couldn't even load into Safe Mode as I would get a blue screen then it would reboot. I did do a fresh Windows install and then, luckily, I had used Acronis True Image to backup my hard drive(after the fresh install) just two days before my blunder. Well, needless to say, I immediately created a restore point once I restored my system. I guess there is no easy solution to this problem.

Thanks

sakor1,

I was just looking at System Restore. Apparently, it works all the time and I guess I could have used it. The thought never occured to me, because I've never used it before. Too bad, I wish I'd have known this sooner. Not a problem, though, since I had backed up my hard drive with Acronis. Yet, another computing lesson learned.

Thanks
